Oplonti's beach
Here is a beautiful and interesting uniqueness of our territory.
Scafati is only 10 kilometers from Torre Annunziata. In the Roman period this town was called OPLONTI now is Torre Annunziata.
This afternoon we came here, by car, to see and show you something unique, exceptional: the black sand beach.

Black sand in Olponti
The beach of Torre Annunziata where the blue of the water meets the dark shades of the sand.

The beach, the black colored sand has the charm of being unique and original. Black sand is found only in some places in the world near active volcanoes and not.

Torre Annunziata beach and the volcano Vesuvius

Over the centuries, Vesuvius volcano has poured, during eruptions, their lava downstream.

In millennia, the lava has then transformed into sand and pebbles .

Beaches and black sand are found in Iceland, in Greece, in Japan, in Indonesia, in California, in the Caribbean, in Spain but ...

... also in Italy, so close to us, a few kilometers from Scafati. Torre Annunziata is near to Vesuvio volcano.

Few are the black sand beaches, indeed they are a real rarity.

When we saw this black expanse we were ecstatic.

Francesco and I had fun to collect the black sand. A unique experience. It 's very thin, light, what a feeling to have it in your hands and fingers!
